The Erotic Massage is by no means a new invention; it has been around in some form for thousands of years with references in the famous guide for lovers, the Karma Sutra dating back to around the tenth century AD where the erotic massage was used either alongside or instead of lovemaking.
In Western culture, the erotic massage was thought of as more a form of medicine or cure for particular illnesses and diseases. The most documented form of ailment that the erotic massage was used to treat was Female Hysteria which was considered to be a chronic ailment and was common place for over 300 years. A Physician by the name of Pieter van Foreest established and prescribed a genital massage technique as treatment for Womb Disease which was prevalent in 1653. The main purpose of the genital massage was to bring the woman into a state of Hysterical Paroxysm which was basically another word for orgasm. As patients needed constant and frequent treatment, treating womb disease in this way could earn physicians a lot of money especially since the disease was not life threatening. However, the process of massaging the vagina commonly known as Pelvic Massage took a lot of time, in most cases it took hours and was boring for physicians. Equally the technique was very difficult for physicians to get the hang of and to master well enough to bring the woman to hysterical paroxysm or orgasm. As a result of this physicians often referred the procedure to midwives or the woman’s husband was asked to help even though it meant loss of earnings for the physicians.
The whole process was speeded up when massage devices were invented like hydrotherapy devices in the early 1800s and by 1870 the first clockwork vibrator was available for physicians to use. These devices brought the time it took physicians to perform the massage down from a few hours to a few minutes.
In modern times, the Erotic massage is mostly used by couples as a form of foreplay or part of lovemaking. However, Erotic massages or a Happy Ending massage are also available from massage parlours and are particularly popular in Asian countries like China and Thailand.
